Patient Story: From PAD to Peak Performance

“I am George Willson. I will be in New Jersey and have lived here for six years. Before that, I lived in Printon for 55 years and grew in marling time ago.

I went to a foot doctor who recommended them. I asked about it because when I walked on the golf course, I was getting pain in the calves of my legs. It was uncomfortable to walk with both legs. When I walked for an extended period, even 5 minutes or more, there was intense pain in the calves of the legs, and the foot doctors diagnosed it as an artery problem and blood flow problem, so we went ahead with Vascular health.

So I called them, and they said they would come and see me, and they came to me. They put some buttons on my legs and arms to measure blood flow or lack of blood flow, and I don’t know what, and they had a laptop which gave them the data that it’s about a 20 min operation to measure the stuff and determine that I didn’t need the artillery work.

They did the work and decided that I needed some help with the arterial blood flow, and well, they said, come on in, we will do one leg and see if that helps, so they scheduled an appointment and brought me over here. I am 90 years old and don’t drive anymore; I got a ride over here, and they did their operation and described it briefly, which was straightforward lie down on the table and didn’t move.

I guess they put inoculation in to deaden the pain in my ankle. Then they put some device into the artery and went up with that device and cleaned out whatever was blocking the arterial flow, and it was over in about 15 mins or so, and I was awake the whole time. I didn’t feel anything. It was no pain.

The needles are so tiny these days that when they go into the body, you don’t feel much, and so anyway, you have to lie still for half an hour which is the hardest thing in the whole operation. You get off the table, and there is no instruction about or notice, and I start walking, doing what I usually do. It was over with no recovery time at all. It’s just back to business, and it’s fantastic, like, and they ask you in a week how it went.

You say OK, no pain, and they say all right, we will schedule on the other leg and went through the same thing again, no problem, no pain, and it was significant. It was terrific like it never happened, and we were just 18 again.

You are not legs concerned. You go out and don’t think about it because there is nothing about it anymore, just no pain. You are back to normal or what you consider normal, so it was terrific. I have many problems playing golf, and the pain was not one of them. It was a total abortion of the problem. It was great, and you can ask more about the operation, and I will tell you it was a simple operation, too.

It was great to get a ride home, and they were terrific, and everybody was on time. You rarely get in a position where you line up and wait for something to happen for an hour, but this was a walk lie down. They are done, and the walkout was fantastic.”
